A longstanding desire among local residents for an assisted-living facility to call Marblehead home may come into fruition.
Three developers, including the chairman of the local Planning Board, are seeking a special permit to build a three-story, 82,182-square-foot assisted living facility at 263-269 Pleasant St., otherwise known as the old, hilly Killam estate.
“I’m incredibly thrilled about this application,” said Selectman Judy Jacobi. “It’s something we’ve needed for quite a while.”
Jacobi said the absence of local assisted-living has forced senior citizens to relocate away from Marblehead, a community where their family, support groups and friends may live.
“It would bring things full circle,” she said. “We need to back this – just as we’ve been so supportive of education and young people in recent years.”
