The Zoning Board of Appeals has taken the rare steps of scheduling a public hearing in Marblehead Community Center, a move prompted by ongoing public interest around a special permit that developers hope to obtain to construct an assisted living facility.
The hearing is slated for Monday, Sept. 21 at 7:30 p.m. in the center’s dining room. Town officials decided to move the meeting from its usual place in Abbot Hall because a large crowd is anticipated.
“It’s a good space for the hearing,” said Town Planner Becky Cutting.
Applicants, business partners and residents Philip Helmes, Michael Lafayette and Heather Cairns seek to build “The Mariner,” a proposed three-story facility at 263-269 Pleasant Street, where the Killiam estate rests atop a hill and another building nearby. The trio purchased the land and properties in May 2014 under the company Pleasant Street, LLC.
